About Asteroid Belt
A ring of shattered leftovers between Mars and Jupiter holding over a million objects larger than 1 km. Despite the movie image, spacecraft pass through safely, since average separations are about a million km. Ceres alone holds a third of the total mass. Kirkwood gaps are swept clear by resonances with Jupiter.
