About Oort Cloud
A hypothesized spherical shell holding perhaps a trillion icy fragments loosely bound to the Sun. Long-period comets like Hyakutake begin their dives from here. The outer edge, around 100,000 AU, lies about a fifth of the way to the nearest star. Jan Oort proposed it in 1950.
