About Hale-Bopp

One of the brightest comets of the 20th century, visible to the naked eye for 18 months in 1996-1997. Had two distinct tails. Discovered independently by Alan Hale and Thomas Bopp. Nucleus estimated at 40-80 km, unusually large. Will not return for about 2,500 years.
